Landscape with Parable of the Sower "The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field: He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom." Matthew 13:24, 37-38

As children of God, we are all "good seeds," blessed by God with the potential to accomplish much good in this world. We fulfill God's plan for us when we share our unique talents and our financial gifts to build up God's kingdom. Through our stewardship we blossom!

FOCUS Missionaries Need Your Prayers

I want to thank Fr. Tim for giving me the opportunity to speak this weekend at all the Masses, about my new ministry, becoming a FOCUS missionary.

FOCUS, which stands for Fellowship of Catholic University Students, is a national outreach to college campuses, and has been in existence for ten years. I will be serving at Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina for the next year, and other FOCUS missionaries will be serving at 44 other college campuses across the nation.

After our summer training, we will be going to our new assigned campuses in hopes of bringing the fullness of life and truth in the Catholic Church to college students. We hope to play a vital role in the "New Evangelization" called for by Pope John Paul II, through Bible studies, large group leadership training, and one-on-one discipleship.

I ask first for your prayers as they are vital to this ministry as well as your financial support during the coming year. I would love to share more with you about my new ministry, and meet with any of you who may have questions. Please feel free to contact me at Tbruner@focusonline.org, or on my cell at 309-657-7614. I promise to keep St. Joseph parishioners in my prayers.

God Bless,
Tom Bruner

RCIA Update for 2008-2009 Season

Are you or someone you know searching for greater meaning in life or longing for a deeper relationship with God? Many religions can bring people close to God, but Catholics have a very special Faith, tradition and way of life to share. Perhaps someone is waiting for your invitation. Why not plant that seed today.

RCIA is a process for sharing the Catholic faith with adults who are: Not baptized but are feeling God's call in their lives; Baptized in other faiths and feel drawn to the Catholic Church; Baptized in the Catholic faith, but have not received First Communion or Confirmation; Baptized and confirmed, but want to update their knowledge of the Catholic faith.

How the process works:
We begin with an introduction to the Catholic faith and community, no commitment is required. Next comes a period of learning the fundamentals of the faith and formation into the Catholic community. Spiritual preparation then intensifies as we examine our lives and the changes we are called to make. This is the time of final preparation for receiving the sacraments. At the Easter Vigil, new members are initiated into the faith. Then begins a period of continued learning and reflection.

When and where:
Inquiry classes being on Wednesday, September 3. These weekly meetings are held at the Parish Center from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. To register or get additional information, call Parish Secretary at 347-6108, Ext 210; Barb Pogioli, 346-9546; or Patrick Quinlin, 241-4527.

If you have someone you would like us to invite to RCIA contact: Deacon Marty Pogioli, 346-9546 or Deaon Mark Wilder, 347-3483
