About the St. Joseph Church Mission Society
The St. Joseph Mission Society was established to address the needs of our parish shut-ins: those parishioners who are sick, elderly, disabled or who just don't have the means or ability to get out, go to mass or take the kind of active role in our faith that most of us can.
Because of their circumstances, many of these shut-ins feel isolated and unable to share with the rest of our parish. They feel lonely, forsaken, left out.
As we all know, the world often seems to count the sick and infirm as useless. But to the Church, and especially to God, the sick, the elderly and the lonely are precious.
That's why the St. Joseph Mission Society was founded.
A Ministry of Care Givers
The care givers of St. Joseph Mission Society strive to bestow on these shut-in parishioners a special gift of faith, hope and love. By visiting, chatting and spending time with them, Mission Society Care givers attempt to share the blessing of the Holy Spirit that is within each of us, no matter what our age, means or physical condition.
Each person we visit becomes a Member of our Mission Society. Each member is given a colorful framed certificate that includes their name and a short prayer. They're asked to remember their church families in prayer. And we remind them that they're important and valued by God and by their fellow parishioners.
Mission Society members are also remembered at daily and Sunday masses throughout the year.
Mission Society Membership
Mission Society membership is open to anyone in our parish who needs our support.
Mission Society visits are made to parishioners who are named by their family or their friends, or by the pastoral team or the church secretary. If there is someone you know who deserves a visit from one of our care givers, please phone Sandy in the parish office at 347-6108, extension 210.
Sign-up times for visits are recorded in the Mission Society Book which is kept in the book rack in the sacristy.
How You Can Help
You can help the St. Joseph Mission Society in several ways:
- by remembering our members in your prayers;
- by telling us about someone we should visit;
- or by becoming a care giver yourself, helping us to reach out to the people of our parish who have special needs.
