Health and Wellness Ministry

Caring Presence Volunteers Are Ready to Help You

Our Parish is blessed with Caring Presence Volunteers who are anxious to serve our parishioners dealing with terminal illness or chronic illness. If you would like a prayer partner to walk through this time with you, call our parish nurse at 347-6108 ext. 222. A volunteer can visit at home, hospital, or nursing home.

Though no physical care can be administered, volunteers are ready to support your mental and spiritual care and be a liason for you to our parish support team of deacons and priests. And all our volunteers have been trained for end of life support.

What's the Health and Wellness Ministry All About?

St. Joseph's Health and Wellness ministry focuses on keeping our parishioners physically healthy. Led by parish nurse Mary Ann Mayer, R.N., Health and Wellness ministers conduct monthly blood pressure screenings, visit the sick and offer a caring presence to the terminally ill.

Registered Nurse Mary Ann Mayer, R.N., maintains regular office hours on Thursdays in the Parish Center. She also conducts visits to parishioners at Pekin Hospital twice each month.

Respite Volunteers Help Family Care Givers

Our Parish has respite volunteers available to sit with a family member while the care giver takes a break for errands, attends Mass, or just gets away to refresh their spirit.

These volunteers are available for one-hour, two-hour or three-hour intervals as needed. For more information or to request volunteer service, contact the parish nurse at 347-6108 ext.222. This volunteer respite service is available for St. Joseph Parish families only.

Need Help or Want To Get Involved?

The Health and Wellness ministry involves many parishioners — folks who simply want to make life easier for those who need help. For example, a staff of Caring Presence volunteers works tirelessly to offer hope and support to those who suffer a terminal illness.

If you'd like to learn more about St. Joseph Health and Wellness programs, volunteer to help, or seek the assistance of a Caring Presence volunteer, please call parish nurse Mary Ann Meyer at 347-6108, extension 222.
