Altar and Rosary Society

The Altar and Rosary Society of St. Joseph Catholic Church acts through its commissions to support, empower and educate all Catholic women in spirituality, leadership and service.

Every Catholic woman in the parish is a member of St. Joseph’s Altar and Rosary Society. Meetings are held the third Monday of the month, September through May.  Dates and programs are announced in the weekly bulletin. In lieu of dues, an envelope is provided in the September church support envelopes. Members are asked to donate for operating expenses and to support the good works of the society at that time.

Activities of the Altar and Rosary Society include the following: assist with parish receptions, conduct a Christmas bake sale and quilt raffle, and provide office help with bulletin stuffing and mailings. To promote church community, we provide an honor guard at women’s funerals, maintain the Mary Garden and support retreat programs and workshops. To assist families in achieving a truly Christian life, preserve Christian principles, and offer solace, we visit nursing homes and remember church members at Christmas. We send out sympathy cards and make and distribute prayer shawls. We support religious education for the youth of our parish, provide newborn layette items which we send to the Christ Child Society, help with the parish Spring festival, and help support Pekin Outreach, a day shelter for the homeless, and Church Women United.
